Day 4 - POSTOJNA CAVE, PIRAN, PORTOROŽ
Breakfast in the hotel. Afterwards, we head off to Postojna cave and Predjama Castle.
Postojna Cave is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world's largest karst monuments.
WHY you ask?
For 140 years, the Postojna Cave, as the only cave in the world, offers a unique and adventurous ride with a special train, which will take you into the cave, under spectacular underground arches, which are embellished with chandellier look-alike stalactites, through a beautiful subterranean world full of playful limestone sculptures.
Maybe you will meet a dragon downthere...
Just 10 kilometres from Postojna Cave stands one of the most picturesque wonders of human history: Predjama Castle. For more than 700 years it has perched proudly on its 123-metre cliff: powerful, defiant and impregnable – the perfect hideout for the bold, headstrong and rebellious knight Erazem of Predjama, a “robber baron” who is the subject of a romantic and beautiful legend.
Afterwards we continue towards the oldest Slovenian seaside town Piran, where we admire beautiful Tartini Square and town church, take a walk around the town and then have a lunch break at one of the local restaurants.
We will take a tour of Sečovlje Salines. At Sečovlje Salina Nature Park, the past and present still walk hand in hand. The ancient method of salt-making, learnt ages ago by the Piran salt-workers from their teachers, the salters from Pag Island, is still something special, even in the entire Mediterranean.
After lunch we depart towards Portorož, the most popular Slovenian coastal destination, where you will be able to take a walk along the main promenade and take some time for coffee at one of the numerous cafes and bars by the sea.
In the late afternoon our group departures back to Ljubljana.
